Serving as Local Counsel
Michigan Trial Attorneys Who Know the Local Courts
We regularly serve as local counsel for out-of-state attorneys who litigate cases in Michigan. Likewise, we routinely utilize local counsel ourselves in the course of representing our clients in various courts throughout the United States. As such, we know that the role of local counsel varies from case to case, depending on a variety of different circumstances.
At Silver & Van Essen, we are happy to serve as local counsel in any capacity, including filing pleadings, providing advice on local practice and procedure, sharing our insights on state and federal judges, conducting legal research, participating in discovery, attending motions, hearings or scheduling conferences, or assisting in any other manner. We know that good, experienced local counsel can not only make life much easier for lead counsel located out-of-state, but can make the difference between winning and losing a case.
Since our partners have each spent well over 20 years litigating cases throughout West Michigan, we are extremely familiar with the Michigan court rules, Michigan procedural law, the local rules for the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan, and our local judges. Our goal when serving as local counsel is to give you the knowledge, insights, expertise and assistance you need to reduce the burdens of litigating out-of-state while maximizing the chances of winning the case for your client.
